Apex 2022

2022 Apex Cup-Angler Profile-Gregory Troughton

In His own words:

I am a skilled finesse fisherman. I am great in tidal current river systems. I love to fish grass. I am always trying to find something unique and special. I am going to use my skills and my brain power to compete in APEX. I love the fact that there is an off-limits and this will give me the opportunity to use my natural skills, instinct, and electronics to find fish. I love the fact that I get to fish alone in my own boat. This is why APEX suits me perfectly.

Hometown:

Discovery Bay, Calif.

Highlights:

15 tournament wins, 2018 Delta FLW champion, 2018 Delta Wild West Bass Trail Team champion, WWBT record weight for a 7 fish limit

Behind the angler:

Gregory grew up in a fishing and hunting family. Since as far back as he can remember he has fished for trout, steelhead, and salmon and on the Delta stripers, catfish, and sturgeon. When he was 12-years-old, he turned his attention towards bass. He fished his first tournament at 22.

In the boat:

Gregory carries the tools of a power fisherman in his boat. Punchin’ and flippin baits such as the Yamamoto Flappin’ Hogs are always on hand. Snag Proof frogs – specifically the Poppin’ Phattie and the now discontinued Jackall Iobee are other must-haves. ChatterBaits and A-rigs also load his compartments. Yamamoto Senkos have a spot as well. Dobyns rods and Powell rods with Shimano reels fill the rod locker. He is fully-equipped with Lowrance Electronics and accessories, including the Ghost Trolling Motor, and SonicHub.
